Isle of Wight County Schools' (IWCS) Fleet Services department continues to set new standards in efficiency and reliability. The team is currently completing its third engine replacement of the year, including one vehicle that had been out of service for over two years. Their dedication to maintenance and training has led to remarkable achievements, such as ensuring that all 130 IWCS cars, vans, trucks, and buses started every morning throughout January—despite temperatures dropping below 15 degrees and many vehicles being over 20 years old. In November, the department reached an all-time high vehicle readiness rate of 99.24%, with 129 out of 130 vehicles operational, the highest percentage ever recorded for the division. Over the past three years, IWCS Fleet Services has transformed from struggling to meet state requirements to becoming a highly efficient vehicle service operation, rivaling some of the largest school divisions in Virginia. Their efforts continue to make a positive impact on students and staff by ensuring safe and reliable transportation every day.
